Symptoms of Bursitis

Bursitis is a sudden sharp chronic pain, burning and inflammation or irritation of the bursa. The bursa is a soft, fluid-filled sac that covers and provides a cushioning to the movement between the bones, tendons and muscles near the joints.
There are different parts of the body where the Bursitis usually occurs:
1 Under the shoulder muscles,
2 The elbows (called epitrochlear bursitis)
3 The hip sockets (called trochanteric bursitis),
4 The heel bones (called retrocalcaneal bursitis)
5 The kneecaps (called infrapatellar bursitis or “housemaid’s knee”)
6 The buttocks (called ischiogluteal bursitis)
7 The thigh (called trochanteric bursitis).
Symptoms of Bursitis
There is pain when there’s a movement of the joint foe example over lifting or reaching out activities that are uncomfortable. Tenderness of the joint increases more during the night. Limited movement in the affected areas leads to swelling and inflammation.A ache or stiffness in the affected area of your shoulder, elbows, hip sockets, knee, heel bones, buttocks and other parts of your body joints. Other symptoms are a terrible pain with movement or pressure or a feeling of warmth over the effected area or a skin redness or inflammation in the affected area
The elbow is the most common area where bursitis forms. In this area there is constant movement like bending, lifting etc and repeated motions leading to pain. Swelling in the kneecap is usually associated with chronic pain and irritation. This occurs usually due to a fall. This is commonly seen in arthritis patients or over weight people and middle aged women. This main is most common during the night and is aggravated by climbing stairs and at extremes of bending and extending. The pain is on the middle part of the knee. People who are into high impact sports and running also suffer from anserine bursitis.
Ankle retrocalcaneal bursitis occurs with wearing or Walking for long distances with uncomfortable tight or high heeled shoes. The pain is usually on the back of the heel and increases with pressure, flexing or extension on the ankle. Ischiogluteal bursitis occurs in the buttock region and causes inflammation on the bottom of the pelvic. Inflammation and irritation can come from sitting for too long on a hard surface or from cycling. The pain occurs when sitting and walking too. The person will suffer tenderness over the pubic bone, which worsens by bending and extending the leg. The iliopsoas bursa is the largest in the body and is found in front of, and deep to, the hip joint. Bursitis here is usually associated with hip problems such as arthritis or injury and occurs especially from running. The pain of iliopsoas bursitis grows all the way down to the front and middle areas of the thigh to the knee and increases when the hip is flexed or moved. Flexing the hip during walking causes pain therefore the person should avoid taking long strides and take shorter steps instead. Morton’s neuroma may also lead to pain in the groin area and a person may also feel a mass resembling to hernia.
