Heel Neuroma
Like the type of heel and foot pain heel neuroma is one of them and this kind of heel pain is the most critical and complicated condition of the sore feet. Unlike other types heel neuroma causes considerable pain and suffering and immobilizes the patient for quite a long time. The pain in other types of heel disorders is supposed to be milder in front of the pain in the heel neuroma. Basically a heel neuroma is an inflamed nerve. The general occurrence of the heel neuroma is between the third and fourth toes. The nerves are the most sensitive part of the human body and hence are more vulnerable to injuries. The compression of the nerve in the foot causes heel neuroma and the pain is beyond the sufferer’s tolerance capacity. He/she can feel burning pain as well as numbness in the foot. The pain in this condition is fluctuating but it can get aggravated if the nerve is further irritated. In the heel neuroma there is also another category that is called as the Morton’s neuroma, which is located at the third and fourth toes. The neuromas are generally found in the heel part of the body and hence the name heel neuroma.
How to detect Neuroma?
The detection of the neuroma is a very confusing process one has to take the advice of an experienced physician otherwise the symptoms may be confused for other disorders of the feet. A direct wound or a cut, which damages the nerve, can create a neuroma. An X-ray examination cannot find if there is any neuroma since the X-ray cannot show the nerve tissue. An MRI or a ct scan is also of no use in finding the neuroma. The sure way to find a neuroma is the actual physical examination by an experienced physician.
The treatment for heel neuroma
Since the heel neuroma is really painful urgent relief is very necessary for the patient. For treating the heel neuroma the doctors usually prescribe cortisone injections, orthotics, performing surgery, or removing the neuroma by using chemical substance. The cortisone injections are the primary ways to treat the heel neuroma. When the cortisone in injected around the nerve it helps to stop the swelling of the nerve and the pressure on the nerves is reduced. Usually 3 injections of cortisones over a period of 12 months are advised.
