The pain that can be felt at the ball of the foot is known as metatasalgia. The pain is very severe and acute. The patient gets a feeling as if he is walking on stones. Some patients experience the burning sensation in one or two toes and many have pain throughout the feet. The pain can occur in either one or two feet. The overweight is the most common problem which is responsible for much disease. Extra weight creates more tension on the feet and lead to metatasalgia. If any person wears high heel shoes on the regular basis then he can face the problem of metatasalgia pain. In some cases the shape of the is prone to get the pain. The shape of the foot prone to the pain is high arched and the bones are in the front which creates excessive pressure on the feet. Athletes are more prone to the pain. If the person is affected by the diseases like diabetes and blood pressure then the probability of metatasalgia increases to considerable extend.

Prevention and cure of metatasalgia

Reduce the extra weight of body, avoid wearing high heel shoes. Try to make the ankle stiff after a minor injury or sprain in the leg. Diseases like diabetes and blood pressure should be prevented. Arthritis patients are very prone to metatasalgia pain. Rest is important after long standing and walking period. Comfortable shoes should be preferred even if they cost more. Intake of pain killers is advisable is some cases. Physician should be consulted before undergoing any kind of exercise. The medicines should be taken with the advice of doctor.

Using ice pad on the affected area for three to four times in a day will be of great help to reduce the pain. In some cases the physician can recommend some injections or medicines for the patient to get relieved from the pain. Some form of exercising is also helpful in reducing the pain. If the patient is affected by any other disease then they should be treated. Some belts are also used to reduce the pain.

Plantar is the most common condition of heel pain. This condition occurs while the long fibrous plantar fascia ligament along the base of the foot extends tears in the tissue resulting in pain and irritation. The pain of plantar fasciitis is generally located close to where the fascia attaches to the calcaneous that is also known as the heel bone. The condition is often mispelled as plantar fascitis. Plantar fasciitis causes the inflammation of the plantar fascia ligament that runs along the bottom of the foot. The plantar fascia ligament is made of fibrous bands of tissue and runs among the heel bone and the toes and stretches with every step. Inflammation develops when tears occur in the tissue.
Heel spur is a pointed bony fragment that shoots from the heel bone. It extends into the reactive tissue and nerves, resulting in pain in the foot with every movement. Pain is generally more pronounced in the morning and subsides through the day but can return again later on or with action.
Symptoms of plantar heel spur:
The most common complaint from plantar fasciitis is a burning, stabbing or aching pain in the heel of the foot. The majority of sufferers will be able to feel it in the morning because the fascia ligament tightens up in the night while sleeping, causing pain to diminish. However, after coming out of bed and place pressure on the ligament it becomes taut and pain is particularly acute.
A heel spur is a common condition that results when a bone growth extends from the heel bone into the sensitive tissue in the heel. These sharp growths of bone develop when the plantar fascia is extremely and repetitively pulled away from the heel bone. In many cases a heel spur can develop along with plantar fasciitis, but can also occur by itself.
Treatment:
Avoiding plantar fasciitis is crucial. There are many options to help prevent the occurrence of this condition and keep it from recurring. One of the most important is maintaining a healthy weight in order to decrease tension on the plantar fascia. In count, shoes are very important and should fit well and provide ample cushioning and support throughout the heel, arch and ball of the foot so that weight is distributed evenly throughout the foot. Try to avoid walking barefoot on hard surfaces and replace old shoes before they wear out. When exercising, start off slow and simple into new routines to prevent sudden or excessive stress on tissue. A heel spur can be treated with conservative treatment methods. Uneasiness can be reduced through anti-inflammatory medications, as well as cortisone injections.

Planter heel spurs is an inflammation occurring in the feet. Planter is a connective tissue at the bottom of the foot. The part of feet that is heel spurs are very soft and delicate responsible for the pain. The planter fisciitis support the muscles of the feet. It is responsible in connecting the ball of the feet to the sole of the feet. The tension that occurs in the planter fiscia is more then twice the weight of the body. When the body is overweight then more pressure will be created on the feet.

Treatment of planter heel spurs

In most of the cases the planter heel spurs can be cured just by taking adequate amount of rest. In some cases doctor will recommend prolonged rest. If the patient instead of taking rest, continue with the normal routine then the problem will get worsen. Stretching the calf muscles will help a lot to reduce the pain. The patient should stretch the muscles during morning hours or after prolonged rest period. Undergoing these exercise several times in a day is of great help to reduce the pain. Using ice pack on the affected area for three times in a day will help a lot. Use of arch support when the patient has flat feet will reduce the intensity of pain. Doctors also recommend heel pads to get rid of the pain. The patient should try to loose the excess weight of the body; this will reduce the level of tension on the feet and ultimately lead to reduction in the pain.

In the sever case of pain the patient need to be very regular in the treatment. Some medicines are good to reduce the pain but they have their own side effects. Patient should avoid minor or major injuries and should be vigilant as any injury will create more problems. The lifestyle of patient will also affect the heel pain. Excessive running, walking or standing on the hard surface should be avoided. The shoes used by the patient should be very comfortable and of good quality. Consulting doctor on regular basis is advisable.

A heel spur is a condition that affects the largest bone in human foot, the heel. A heel spur is a calcium deposit that builds when the plantar fascia pulls away from the heel area of one’s foot. The plantar fascia is a band of tissue that runs all along the bottom of a foot. Heel spurs can cause a severe type of pain when any pressure is applied to that area. A heel spur can actually be called as a hook of bone. A hook gets formed on the bone of a heel, and it in turn, causes pain by inflaming the plantar fascia.

Persons of middle age are more susceptible to heel spurs, however bone spurs can be found in any person of any age. A heel spur is usually not the primary cause of pain. It inflames and irritates the plantar fascia that causes a great discomfort in a patient. Most bone spurs can be diagnosed with an X-ray. There is a lot of stress on the tissue in the arch of one’s foot, and that tissue is anchored by the heel bone. And hence, there is a lot of stress on these tissues as well as on the heel at the same time. Footwear can also be a cause to the development of heel spurs, and it is recommended not to wear shoes having high heels.

Treatment

It is recommended for a patient having a heel spur to not to jog or exercise on his feet for a few days. He may also be advised to apply ice at the affected area to control pain and and inflammation. There are specific exercises and stretches that can relax the tissues surrounding one’s heel bone. Also, a medical practitioner can administer anti-inflammatory drugs for reducing pain and inflammation. Some doctors prescribe shoe inserts to allow one to continue normal activities. There are night splints that keep one’s heel stretched out at night while he sleeps. Most of the treatments or their combinations will help to alleviate the pain and inflammation of heel spurs in almost 90 days. It is said that prevention is better than cure. So, it is important to remember that spurs actually develop because of overstretching of the plantar fascia, and one needs to search for the cause of overstretching.

Frequently unnoticed in the discrepancy diagnosis of heel pain is neuroma of the medial calcaneal branch of the posterior tibial nerve. Heel neuroma is a significant disorder of the foot that has been misdiagnosed by physicians as heel spur syndrome. There are many studies that show how heel pain rarely has anything to do with calcaneal exostosis, but in its place could be related to heel neuroma. Heel pain is a general condition in adults that may root significant discomfort and disability. A variety of soft tissue, osseous and systemic disorders can cause heel pain. Contraction the differential diagnosis begins with a history and physical examination of the lower limit to pinpoint the anatomic source of the heel pain. The most ordinary cause of heel pain in adults is plantar fasciitis. Patients with plantar fasciitis inform about increased heel pain with their first steps in the morning or when they stand up after prolonged sitting.
Sources of neuroma:
Softness at the calcaneal tuberosity generally is obvious on examination and is increased with passive dorsiflexion of the toes. Tendonitis also can cause heel pain. Achilles tendonitis is linked with posterior heel pain. Bursae adjacent to the Achilles tendon placing may become inflamed and cause pain. Calcaneal stress fractures are more probable to happen in athletes who participate in sports that need running and jumping. Patients with plantar heel pain accompanied by tingling, burning or numbness may have tarsal tunnel syndrome. Heel protection atrophy may present with diffuse plantar heel pain, mainly in patients who are older and obese. Less common causes of heel pain that should be considered when symptoms are prolonged or unexplained include osteomyelitis, bony abnormalities or tumor. If conservative treatment of plantar fasciitis fails to alleviate symptoms, the physician should assess for a neuroma.
Other causes of heel pain:
There are few more causes of having heel pain. They are excessive rolling in of the feet when walking. An inflamed bursitis, a small, irritated sack of fluid at the back of the heel. A neuroma, other soft-tissue growths and heel bumps or a bone enlargement at the back of the heel bone. Bruises or stress fractures to the heel bone can be one of the major reasons to get acute heel pain known as neuroma.

Bursitis is the inflammation of one or more bursae, which are small sacs of synovial fluid in human body. Bursae rest on the pressure points between bones and tendons, in very close proximity to the joints. For example, bursae in hip, shoulder, ankle, and knee keep body’s movements smooth by acting as shock absorbers, and lubricating areas of movement between bone, tendon, and muscle. Repeated movement or stress on joints, for example throwing a baseball, can irritate the bursae in shoulder, causing bursitis. Bursitis is nothing but body’s response to the injury of bursae. An inflammation at a joint results in pain and tenderness at that point, restricting sufferer’s movements. Some examples of bursitis are Prepatellar bursitis, Trochanteric bursitis, Olecranon bursitis, and Subacromial bursitis.

Causes and symptoms

Bursitis can be acute as in pain that immediately follows an injury, or chronic as in a recurring inflammation in the same joint. Its symptoms may vary from an achy stiffness to intense pain involving the entire joint. The reason behind bursitis can be trauma. Repetition of movement or excessive pressure can be the other reasons. Inflammation of bursae can be caused by other inflammatory conditions like rheumatoid arthritis. Particularly, scoliosis can be a cause of bursitis of shoulders. Other causes may be incorrect posture, abnormal bone structures that put a stress on tendons in the joint area, for example, having one leg longer than the other. Even gout can be a cause of bursitis, when crystalline deposits go into a joint fluid and get deposited around the joint capsule.

Prevention

It is recommended not to overuse joints, be it heavy labor or leisure activities. It is important to warm-up doing at least three minutes of light activity, in order to lessen the impact of repetitive movements on joints. Staying fit is always the best option to avoid bursitis, and other diseases. Any kind of strength training is very crucial. It is a nice idea to take breaks during tasks that require repetitive movements, or during exercise. Leaning, kneeling, or sitting on hard surfaces for long period of time can cause compression of bursae. It is a good idea to use chairs having padding for joints.

Heel pain, the immobilizing pain

Since heel pain is associated with our feet that keep us moving and active and one would not be in any position to move to and fro with sore feet, one needs to take really good care and pay attention to any constant pain in the heels. Since the feet are not the most likeable part of body for everyone nor it is as active as the brain and heart it usually suffers from neglect and people pay any attention to them when they feel some nagging pain and aching in the heels. The human feet are subjected to various shocks and pressures and generally the feet absorb at least one thousand pounds of force in a day so one can see how difficult it is for the feet to keep moving everyday without getting tired. There are different types of heel pain and they are caused by a variety of reasons. The most common heel pain is the plantar fasciitis or heel pain where there is an inflammation of the ligament that connects the heel to the ankle muscle. There is also the Heel bursitis heel pain.

Stretching exercises for heel pain at home

In the treatment of most of the heel pain there is no any surgical or invasive operation involved, simple exercises at home and rest at home are the best treatment for heel pain. Before one uses any treatment for treating heel pain one should always consult the physician this is most important in the cases of elderly people or those who are suffering from diabetes. Stretching exercises involves stretching the feet by taking the support of the wall and one can also do the towel stretching exercise at home, which involves pulling the towel placed on the ground towards oneself by curling the toes and then lifting the towel. If you are suffering from the Busitis type of heel pain one can take proper rest but this doesn’t mean that one has to stop all the daily activities but one has to restrict the use of one’s feet and not to subject it to uneven activities.
Other ways of home treatment for heel pain are the ice treatment in which one can use ice in a cloth and ice down the feet this relaxes the tired heels and stops any swelling.

Heel Spurs are also known as Calcaneous’ are the bulge’s that are present in the Heels.
These problems are mainly faced due to the bones that are present around the heels. Immense pain can be caused due to these heel spurs. But if one can notice, the main is observed more when you wake up in the mornings than that in the night. Normally the people already suffering from foot problems or heel spurs can hit problems that are caused due to the plantar fasciitis.
Women as well as men from all age groups can suffer from these problems but the heel spurs target mainly the middle-aged people. Itching and inflammation are the symptoms of these heel spurs and the primary problems too. Heel spurs also appear in some patients who are suffering from plantar fasciitis, and tend to occur in patients who have this problem for along period of time.
Its seen that 70% of patients who are suffering with plantar fasciitis have a heel spur, and x-rays also show about 50% of patients with no symptoms plantar fasciitis also have a heel spur. A heel spur is also seen in patients who have a history of foot pains and problems caused by plantar fasciitis. The diagnosis of a heel spur is made via an X-ray scan which reveals the presence of a heel spur protruding from the bottom front edge of the heel bone.

The different forms of Bone spurs are:
1> Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH). This condition causes bony growths to form on the ligaments of your spine.
2> Plantar fasciitis. A bone spur, sometimes called a heel spur, can form where the connective tissue connects to your heel bone (calcaneus’s). The spur results from long lasting irritation or inflammation of the connective tissue.
3> Spondylosis. In this condition, osteoarthritis and bone spurs cause degeneration of the bones in your neck (cervical spondylosis) or your lower back (lumbar spondylosis).
4> Spinal stenosis. Bone spurs can contribute to a narrowing of the bones that make up your spine (spinal stenosis), putting pressure on your spinal cord

What is a heel spur?

There are many confusions in the patient’s mind as to the different attributes of the heel spur, however every heel pain may not be a heel spur or even there may be heel spur but there is no pain in the heels. The common idea that everyone has about heel spur is that it is a bony projection that causes pain but in fact any heel spur that causes pain is because there is damage to the soft tissue, which is located at the bottom of the foot. Heel spur is the name that is generally used for the medical condition known as the plantar fasciitis. The planter fasciitis term is like location oriented because it refers to the location of the particular muscle or ligament. Any individual is quite unaware of the way he or she uses their feet in just one single day one may take many thousand steps without being very attentive. We take our feet for granted and use them any which way we want.

Causes of heel spur

The causes of heel spur or plantar fasciitis are related to the unrestricted use of the feet and the stress and injury that results from excessive use of the feet. The feet are designed for bearing only the limited load but they are made to bear load that is not reasonable. The foot however can bear load but if it is not given enough time to recover from the excessive load then pain results and it may persist if it is subjected to more weight. This condition causes the primary and secondary plantar fasciitis, in the second condition the pain gets chronic. There are many ways to treat the heel spur that include biomechanical methods, anti-inflammatory methods, and at times surgery.

Surgical options for heel spur

Surgery is the last resort for treating plantar fasciitis when it gets worse but it involves many complications. In the surgical options for plantar fasciitis the fascia of the foot is released manually so that the pain may go away or at least decrease. The surgery is called as the plantar fasciotomies. The surgical may result into complication as the structure of the foot may change. The complications can be listed like Fallen arches, Infection, The damage to the nerves, or the lateral Column syndrome.
